Opals

Length: 3 hours
Instructor: Ted Irwin

Examine the various varieties of precious and common opal and use the new standards adapted by the Australian Gemstone Industry Council for their classification. From common to fine black, boulder and fire opal, you will examine specimens from the famous Australian mines to more local sources and the components that go into their pricing.

Synthetic opal, assembled doublets, and triplets will also be examined.
