What attributes make metals "precious" and how do we use them, particularly in jewelry? The properties of gold, silver, and the platinum family of metals, their uses and applications in jewelry will be explored. The new alloys in the industry, how different metal combinations effect durability and other characteristics are topics of discussion as well as specialty processes.

A look at karat determination by electronic and touchstone method will be demonstrated.
